Situation vs. Character

Perceptions. Why are collaboration and cooperation sometimes so difficult? What are the reasons why we struggle so much with calling each other out when we don't like what's happening? So much of this has to do with the ways that we interpret our own behaviors versus how we interpret other people's. How you perceive me and my actions vs. how I perceive myself are often not aligned. In fact, there are a number of factors that conspire against us understanding... Continue Reading

Dealing with the fear

Feelings. What is your relationship to emotions? Are you able to be aware of what you're feeling as you read this? If so, then congratulations. You're fairly unusual. Tasha Eurich, the author of Insight, says, “Our data reveals that 95 percent of people believe they are self-aware, but the real number is 12 to 15 percent,” she says. “That means, on a good day, about 80 percent of people are lying about themselves—to themselves.” I guess, even when we think... Power of Possibility

Not as smart as we think. Have you ever noticed how easy it is to get stuck in a pattern of thinking? If you're self-aware, you might find that you rationalize yourself into a corner. We tend to turn beliefs and assumptions into logic, which gets us stuck. In no place is this more evident than when we want to influence others. (See: Adam Grant's work on assumptions.) Try using logic to move someone off of their belief and see... Continue Reading

Our Methods

When executives, managers, and high potential clients come to me for help, they are often wrestling with some of the crucial soft skills in their communication:

  • How do they project a greater sense of confidence and presence?
  • How can they lead with influence?
  • How do they get their communication to do more than just convey information?

It isn’t enough to just know “the answer,” you’ve got to be able to convey that answer in a way people can understand.

The higher an employee rises in a company, the more they must rely on the powers of communication, presence, and relationships to be an effective leader. The opportunity is to be understood and trusted.

Working with a leadership coach is a path to greater self-awareness and persuasiveness. Learn to recognize how we create tension, conflict, and even mistrust just by our body language, our tone of voice, and our choice of words.

The question of how we can communicate with intuitiveness, clarity, and self-trust is a riddle that can be solved through coaching and self-awareness.

The key to better leadership is in showing that you CARE: be Curious, Aware, Respectful, and Empathic. With these tools, managers, Executives, high-potentials and teams are able to communicate with clarity and greater effectiveness. The goal of this leadership coaching is to communicate and lead with calm, clarity, and trustworthiness. When teams are better at communicating with one another, they collaborate more freely, are more trustful of intentions, and understand how to manage through conflict.
